Domain Skills

Systems development - high-integrity electronics

SEA's capability covers the full life cycle from feasibility studies, through simulation, prototype development and trials, to production management and post delivery support.  Equipment can be supplied to commercial, military or aerospace qualified standards.

System Integration

We offer bespoke and COTS systems development, with expertise in embedded real-time data and digital signal processing systems.  Our structured approach used appropriate tools for requirement analysis and system partitioning, eg UML SysML, Object Oriented Analysis/Object Oriented Design and RTSASD.

Hardware Design

Data and DSP systems using a range of processor devices from high-performance processor engines to ultra-low power micro controllers; use of hardware interface standards (eg VME, SpaceWire, RS422, PCI, CAN bus, Rocket IO, Ethernet, RF wireless); ASIC and FPGA designs for high-performance, algorithm-specific designs and general digital implementations through fully verified VHDL.

Software Capability

Software modelling using UML and Use Case modelling; high-level languages (eg JAVA, C, C++, C~); assembler languages (eg Intel x86, Motorola 68K, DSP56000, analogue devices DSP); real-time operating systems (eg VXWorks, QNX); host operating systems (eg Windows, UNIX, VMS).

SEA provides tailored levels of analysis, configuration management and build control.  Application specific analyses are also available using MatLab/Simulink modelling, ModelSIM simulation and Spice modelling, as appropriate.

Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

We offer a total capability to provide GSE for aircraft development to a range of testing from unit level, through systems integration, to aircraft check-out.

Emphasis is placed on a cost-effective approach to GSE development and supply through:

  • maximum use of COTS hardware/software to minimise development cost and schedule
  • well-tailored hardware and software developments for specific application needs
  • systems approach, providing an equipment to fully meet customer requirements
  • understanding of ARINC protocols
  • a modelling and simulation capability and flow-through into the EGSE for hardware/software in the loop testing
  • use of GSE Toolkit utilising standard architecture, co-developed by SEA

SEA regularly deploys this capability in the space domain.  Other developments include military radar system test equipment, spaceborne radar EGSE software, radar calibration transponders and supporting EGSE systems for many equipment supply programmes.
